#Just5Minutes when I Really, Really, Really, Really, Really did not want to work out – even for a hot second.

I’ve been in studying hell for the C.H.E.S Certification Exam, or I should say – Procrastination Hell. The exam is in the morning and I needed to move. I’ve gotten little sleep the last few days — no joke, probably three hours total, and tonight will be maybe an hour if I can actually fall asleep. I feel horrid. Pain is off the charts for several reasons, but yoga and movement usually make me feel better.  So, that’s what I did – 15 mins on the spin bike and then some yoga-ish stretching/strength to help ease pain.  Still .. I got it done, even if it was only 15ninues – something is better than notthubg

#Just5Minutes – Sculpt Pilates Class

Sculpt Studio focuses on the Lagree Method using the Megaformer machine. However, today I took a regular Pilates class at Sculpt and it was great.  I’m still working on regaining my strength from my most recent EDS spiral and Pilates has been a recent type of exercise for me to incorporate in my workout routine.  I fell in love with Pilates over a year ago when visiting my friend’s studio on the Eastern Shore. I quickly realized that classic Pilates had a lot to offer me — different from my usual workouts, such as yoga, the Pilates-like workouts on the Megaformer, indoor cycling, and most other mainstream workouts.   Consequently, I started incorporating classic Pilates into my routine and noticed incredible differences in many of my weaker areas. In fact, Pilates is the main reason why I have hope and shown progress in helping correct the kyphosis and scoliosis in my back, as well as the winging of my scapulae. Over the summer, I was not able  practice Pilates as I previously was able to, …

#Just5Minutes – When You Miss Your Zengo Cycling Class

I had to cancel two classes today earlier today, and then I didn’t make it in time to my Zengo Cycling class. What went from a rockstar workout day, took a serious nose dive, but was saved by my oldest. He saw me in my yoga/workout room on the spinning bike — after I came home early from the cyling class I had just missed. I wasn’t happy to say the least, but made myself get on the spinning bike and start peddling my legs. My oldest opened the door to the workout room and when I asked him what he was doing, he responded “You’re in a workout class — see you later!”  He then smiled, shut the door, and walked away. And made sure his little sister didn’t interrupt me.  Now that’s love.

#Just5Minutes – Zengo Cycle Date with My Husband

There’s something about starting your day, or the weekend, with a great workout — today it was Zengo Cycle.    Done and done! Well, except for the doughnuts we promised the kids that we would bring home. Yeah… There went all those calories we burned, but at least my legs are getting stronger. Cycling regularly helps with fluid retention issues in my legs and above my knees — at least, that’s my hope. Below are pics of my knees after paddle boarding on vacation. The problem wasn’t paddleboarding. I am conditioned enough to handle paddle boarding, and it’s one of my favorite outdoor activities — especially paddleboard yoga. However, I guess my body didn’t like me paddleboarding on my knees, and it only made the swelling issue in my legs worse. I had no pain, nothing, but a few family members competed on my knees. So, I took a picture because I couldn’t “see” what they were referring to. I was a bit shocked, alarmed, and a bit concerned — to say the least. No pain. …

#Just5Minutes of Barre – The realization that I’ve seriously deconditioned

#Just5Minutes of barre thanks to Tracey Mallett Fitness’ Booty Barre workout video. BootyBarre plus arms and abs kicked my butt today. Could also be from the lovely #POTS flare I’ve been dealing with lately, but I still got through it. Lots of stops and restarts. Lots of trying to breathe deeply despite feeling seriously out of breath and my heart racing even higher after I stop moving. Barre is also low-impact which makes it more frustrating when I have a hard time keeping up. I move my leg and my heart rate skyrockets. As much as I don’t want to admit it, I’m pretty sure this flare is exacerbated by overall deconditioning that’s progressed over the last year because of working on my computer more, and moving around a lot less during the day, despite still working out and staying active. My strength sessions have also struggled, as have my consistency with going to cycling – both are two things that make a huge difference in how my body reacts to exercise and fights against “The …
