What matters is that we showed up – together.

Powerful class today.  12 people total showed up – vulnerable, open-minded and honest. I did the same.  We are all in this together.  While I’m learning to teach yoga and mindfulness to our community, versus solely speaking and writing about it, those who’ve come to our last three mind-body classes, have showed up to face their own fears surrounding movement and anything that may cause additional pain or trauma. What matters is that we showed up – together.  What matters is that we allowed ourselves to be vulnerable and open-minded.  What matters is that we know that we are not alone.  What matters is that we allowed ourselves to focus on the positives and what we can do, not just what we can’t – even if it was for #just5minutes.  I’m blessed and grateful to have the opportunity to walk this journey with all those who open themselves up and allow me to walk with them. Not lead them, but walk beside them.  Today was humbling.  Thank you to Deborah Norris, Ph.D. and everyone at …

Mind-Body Strategies for Hypermobility and Chronic Pain

This 4 class/seminar series on Mind-Body Strategies for hypermobility and chronic pain, and is a collaboration between EDS Wellness and Dr. Deborah Norris with The Mindfulness Center in Bethesda, MD. The purpose of this series of 4 classes is based on two principles: 1. Part of the RYS 200 Yoga Instructor Training Program is a Seva requirement. Seva is a series of 4 yoga classes taught by a particular community – free of charge. It’s the community service requirement of the RYS 200 certification. Of course, I picked the hypermobility/EDS community to teach classes to. 2. One of the projects that I’ve been working on for EDS Wellness is a mindfulness for hypermobility program with Dr. Francomano, based on her experience with a study that she conducted years ago. Originally, the Seva component of my yoga instructor training and the project with Dr. Francomano under EDS Wellness were not one in the same. However, as time went on and because of Dr. Norris’ and The Mindfulness Center’s support of Wellapalooza and the work that I …

Wanderlust 108 Festival – The Ultimate Tri for Those Who Love MindBody Practices

Click on the picture below to join the EDS Wellness/Wellapalooza Group at Wanderlust 108 in DC on October 2nd, 2016!   What is Wanderlust 108?   “Wanderlust 108 is a field day for your mind, body and soul. Hold the plastic trophy, because we have better prizes: vibrant community, self-awareness and inner peace. Community instead of competition? You can’t beat that. “Sure, it doesn’t seem as strenuous as running a marathon, lifting several hundred pounds, or sweating through a Hatha yoga class, but walking is just as effective a workout as any other! Regular, brisk walking can help you maintain a healthy weight, prevent or manage conditions like high blood pressure or type 2 diabetes, improve your balance, and boost your mood. Incorporate more walking into your day by parking at the back of the parking lot, going for an after dinner stroll with your family, or taking an extra lap around the grocery store before checking out.” Click the link below to view Wanderlust’s Facebook Event Page https://www.facebook.com/events/466449090211912/?ti=icl Learn more about Wanderlust Festivals by going to http://wanderlust.com/festivals/ You can …
