#Just5Minutes – Week 4 of making the decision to take my life and body back is 1/2 way over

The sunrise on the way to barre class this morning – beautiful. It makes getting up super early just a bit easier.  – I’ve worked out 1-2x a day, every day. – I’m focusing on doing yoga 2x a week – not just when teaching it. My next goal is to do it daily for a 30-day challenge. – I’m still going to PT an average of 1x a week – I’ve made sure that I’m walking as much as I have been – especially when taking the kids to school or picking them up. – I’ve gone to bed at a reasonable time each night, but I’m still working on getting enough sleep and rest. Pacing has never been my strength. – I’m making sure that I’m taking my supplements each day, and working on improving my nutrition even more (although I’m super hungry all of the time, which isn’t usual for me). – I’ve been trying to make sure I make time for acupuncture, massage and other alternative therapies that I know help, …

#Just5Minutes – That Time I Almost Died Doing The FIRM for the First Time in A Long Time

That time you decided to take back your muscles, because you are 4 weeks from going on a Yoga Retreat with The Mindfulness Center at Pura Vida Resort & Spa in Costa Rica, and you decided to go back to what works best – old school Firm workout videos. And you even bought a VHS VCR to play your library of VHS workout tapes on. But, then you almost died 20 mins into your workout….. In college when I didn’t do the FIRM for one week, despite still working out, I used to get what I called the “one month of leg pain” when I started doing it again. In just one week, my muscles can decondition that fast, even when I’m still active. The good news is, muscle has memory, and the FIRM does deliver results in 10 workouts. I was lucky enough to go to the actual FIRM Gym during my freshman year of college Charleston, SC. After I had left the College of Charleston to transfer to the University of Maryland, The …

#Just5Minutes of Barre – The realization that I’ve seriously deconditioned

#Just5Minutes of barre thanks to Tracey Mallett Fitness’ Booty Barre workout video. BootyBarre plus arms and abs kicked my butt today. Could also be from the lovely #POTS flare I’ve been dealing with lately, but I still got through it. Lots of stops and restarts. Lots of trying to breathe deeply despite feeling seriously out of breath and my heart racing even higher after I stop moving. Barre is also low-impact which makes it more frustrating when I have a hard time keeping up. I move my leg and my heart rate skyrockets. As much as I don’t want to admit it, I’m pretty sure this flare is exacerbated by overall deconditioning that’s progressed over the last year because of working on my computer more, and moving around a lot less during the day, despite still working out and staying active. My strength sessions have also struggled, as have my consistency with going to cycling – both are two things that make a huge difference in how my body reacts to exercise and fights against “The …
